Description

This video game, crafted by a team of three, was programmed in assembly language (using gbtelera) and designed for the original Game Boy. The project took seven weeks to develop, including a learning phase during which an ECS (Entity Component System) engine was implemented specifically for this game's development. 

In this game, you play as an alien on a quest for donuts! Make sure to avoid the guards standing between you and your sugary prize. But why would an alien crave our donuts?

This alien is addicted to sugar!  

It's the first time in human history that we've been contacted from outer space, and it seems they just want to steal our donuts. Step into the role of a curious alien who only wants to take a few donuts with them. Is it pure greed, or do they need them for something specific?

Meet the crew

 Marciano Delgado -  He’s the protagonist of this story; his craving for donuts will drive him to venture into dangerous places just to have one more.

 Guard Cuesta - A guard in the city of Glazeburg, he hates the afternoon shift and is quite sleepy, so don't be surprised if you can easily escape him during his routine patrols.

 Donut - This donut is a perfect circle of delight, its golden crust embracing a soft, pillowy heart. Each bite is a balance of sweetness and warmth, a delicate dance between the light, airy interior and the gentle crunch of its sugared surface. It holds an aroma that beckons irresistibly, a whisper of vanilla and dreams, promising comfort and a momentary escape into pure bliss. Adorned with a glistening glaze or dusted in sugar, a donut is a small, edible treasure—joy itself, wrapped in the simplest form. Can't blame the aliens for wanting to invade us just to try a little piece.

  Hearts - Make sure you get them, you may need help, and this will bring you an extra life!

Walls - You can't go through them, right?

We've used GBT-Player to play the music in the game, and we composed it with the help of OpenMPT.

Install instructions

Hello, and thank you for downloading Cosmic Muncher! Here are some quick tips for installing and enjoying the game. You can play it in two ways: on an emulator or on an original Game Boy.

Option 1: Emulator

1. Download and configure the emulator to your preference. We recommend using BGB.

2. Make sure you have set BGB to "Game Boy" as the default system in the emulator settings.

3. Download the ROM and open it in the emulator—that’s it!


Option 2: Original Game Boy

1. Obtain an EZ-Flash cartridge or a similar one that allows loading games from a microSD card.

2. Transfer the ROM to the microSD card from a computer.

3. Insert the microSD into the cartridge, and insert the cartridge into your Game Boy.

4. Turn on the console, locate the ROM in the directory, press the A button, and start playing!
